NUS USI

Project Description
NUS USI
In November 2015 NIYF & The National Union of Students-Union of Students in Ireland (NUS-USI) signed an historic partnership agreement.

This agreement came about following the work for NIYF Chairperson (2014-2016), Matthew Carson and NUS USI President, Fergal McFerran who recognised the potential in bringing the Student Union movement and Youth Forum membership closer together.

The vision is that together we can be more effective in bringing about positive change – by young people, for young people.

The partnership is based on the potential for joint campaigning and support and sets out ways in which we will work together.
NUS-USI and the NIYF are both democratic, membership-led organisations committed to representing the best interests of their members.

The Northern Ireland Youth Forum is a youth led organisation that lobbies, advocates, promotes and fights for the rights of young people in Northern Ireland. NIYF was established in 1979 by the Department of Education to represent the views of young people to government and other decision makers.

The National Union of Students – Union of Students in Ireland (NUS-USI) was established in 1972 under a unique arrangement where both the British and Irish national student unions, the National Union of Students (UK) and the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) respectively, jointly organised in Northern Ireland to promote student unity across the sectarian divide.
