Young people have told us that they would like to have a say on issues related to the legacy of the past. Another new relationship for NIYF is with the Commission for Victims and Survivors.
This project has been hugely successful and young people are keen to continue to work with the Commission, especially given that issues related to the past can be so difficult for our society to grapple with.
Through NIYF’s work with the Commission for Victims and Survivors young people have recommended that:
- The Northern Ireland education system should enable children and young people to understand the legacy of the past, and contribute to building a shared, reconciled, and multicultural society.
- Political leadership is essential to demonstrate commitment to peace and reconciliation
- Long term meaningful engagement with young people is paramount
We look forward to a potential next stage of this important project as young people have consistently spoke about the impact of the legacy of the past.
