NI Youth Forum is currently working alongside Newtownabbey PCSP on the delivery of a Detached Youth Project.
- It is a relatively new project, which will run for 18 months. A team of detached youth workers will be deployed to work in 8 communities across Newtownabbey. They will make contact with marginalised young people in their own environment who are not engaged in mainstream provision.
- Young people will be supported in taking action to meet their needs and goals by encouraging participation in tailored personal and social development programmes.
- As a result of the Project young people will be less likely to engage or become involved in anti-social behaviour and criminality. They will have improved relationships at a local level and will have developed skills in leadership, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
The areas currently being worked in are New Mossley, Glengormley, Burnside, Bawnmore, Longlands and Monkstown.
