About the project

Our Voices is a youth-led research and participation project delivered by NI Youth Forum and is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade – Reconciliation Fund

The project brings together a group of young people from across Northern Ireland to explore the issues that matter most to young people today. Through youth-led research, group work, training, campaigning, and engagement with decision-makers, Our Voices supports young people to share their views and influence change.

At the heart of the project is a youth-led steering group. This group has designed and developed the Your Voice, Our Future Survey – a survey created by young people, for young people.

The survey aims to hear from young people aged 11–25 across Northern Ireland about their views, experiences, and priorities, including youth participation, community issues, safety, services, and hopes for the future.

Youth-led research

The young people involved in the project have worked together to design a survey that asks young people across Northern Ireland what matters to them right now.

The findings from the survey will help identify common themes, priorities, and concerns from young people. These findings will be used to support future conversations with decision-makers, including politicians, civil servants, schools, youth organisations, community groups, and others who have the power to make change.

Young people involved in Our Voices will take part in a range of activities, including:

  • Designing and promoting youth-led research
  • Gathering the views of young people across Northern Ireland
  • Exploring key issues affecting young people
  • Taking part in training and skills development
  • Building confidence in public speaking, campaigning, and advocacy
  • Meeting and engaging with decision-makers
  • Developing key messages and recommendations
  • Supporting campaigns and actions that reflect young people’s priorities
