Frack On? or Frack Off?

What is Fracking?

Fracking is the process of drilling down into the earth before a high-pressure water mixture is directed at the rock to release the gas inside. Water, sand and chemicals are injected into the rock at high pressure that allows the gas to flow out to the head of the well.

Despite evidence that it can cause earthquakes, government reports suggest that the risks to public health from exposure to emissions from shale gas extraction are low if operations are properly run and regulated.

Environmental activists, however, have slammed the report claiming that fracking will bring with it “significant negative effects” such as groundwater contamination, radioactive waste, severe methane leakage, air pollution and climate change.
