Gold for Translink Youth Forum
NI Youth Forum members and Translink officials were delighted on Monday night as they won a coveted Gold Award at the NICCY Participation Awards. The Translink Youth Forum was rewarded for work in developing the Y-Link youth discount card for 16-23 year olds.
Commissioner for Children and Young People, Patricia Lewsley-Mooney said,
“These awards are for government departments and public bodies who demonstrate they have involved children and young people in planning services and in the decisions that affect their lives”
“Congratulations are due to Translink on their Gold Award and for their ongoing work in involving children and young people in what they do”
The Participation Awards are judged by representatives from the NICCY Youth Panel. Panel member Jill Lapping said:
“The ‘yLink’ project was developed in conjunction with the Translink Youth Forum which has been in existence since 2009. The youth forum felt that the cost of transport could be a barrier for young people in accessing leisure activities and travelling to part time jobs”
“It is clear that through effective participation, Translink based this service on the actual needs of the young people in northern ireland which has created a more efficient and adapted service for them”
The Translink youth forum is facilitated and supported by NIYF and we are delighted that the hard work of the young people involved has been recognised.
The Y-Link card offers young people aged 16-23 a discount of 1/3 on all travel on Translink services and up to 50% off Enterprise travel. It is also recognised by a number of retailers who offer in-shop discount to anyone with a valid card. More details about the discount card and all the current offers can be found here.
